Product Review: Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation

This foundation has been out for quite some time, but I was on the fence about purchasing it because there were so many mixed reviews.

I was really looking for a foundation with incredible staying power as well as coverage and this one seemed to meet those characteristics based off of its description and name. So, I ignored the reviews completely and decided to try it out for myself! I purchased this foundation about three weeks ago (in the shade 4.0) and have been testing it out since.

Keep reading for my full review on this foundation and to find out whether or not I think it is worth repurchasing!

About the Product

According to Sephora, this foundation claims to…

  • give a full coverage and completely matte finish
  • is waterproof
  • is oil-free
  • will last “all night”
  • comfortable enough for everyday wear
  • contains 25% pigment (about THREE TIMES as much pigment as their Naked Skin foundation)
  • says there is no need to build coverage or apply multiple layers
  •  diffuses light to blur flaws
  • mattifies skin and absorbs oil to reduce shine throughout the day
  • says to allow foundation to set before choosing the right shade for you (oxidizes, they suggest choosing a lighter shade if you are between shades)
  • comes with airless pump which makes it possible to get out every last bit of product
  • comes in 25 shades

My Thoughts…

I will start with my preferred method of applying this foundation. I tried applying it with both a kabuki brush and beauty sponge and definitely prefer the brush. I find that it drastically improves the coverage and blends the product out easier and faster. This foundation gives FULL COVERAGE. A little bit goes a long way, so the 1 ounce bottle will last quite a while. You do not need to build this up whatsoever, otherwise it might look a little too cake-y. While the description says this foundation gives a completely matte finish,  I find that it is more of a natural-matte finish on my skin. I do not mind this at all though because I do not like when matte foundations make my skin look flat and dull. One of my favorite things about this foundation is how long it lasts! To me, this foundation lasts twice as long as the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. This was a major element I was looking for in a foundation and this one met that need 100%. The description did not specify in hours how long the foundation was supposed to last, but I did end up sleeping in my makeup one night (I know this is terrible for your skin and I do not recommend sleeping with your makeup on) and when I woke up the next morning my skin still looked flawless. This being said, the claim that it will last “all night” (hence the name) stands to be true in my opinion. The foundation also claims to diffuse light to blur imperfections. I agree with this statement 100%! Right when I apply the foundation, I notice that my skin instantly looks flawless and my pores are blurred. Even though this is a full coverage foundation, when I look into a magnified mirror, my skin still looks like skin and I cannot see the foundation just sitting on top of my skin.

I did find a few downsides to this foundation as well. While the shade range is pretty extensive, the undertones of the shades are not. The undertones are either very pink or very yellow. I have neutral-olive undertones and the shade that matched me best was 4.0. This shade, for me, is very yellow though and I do need to blend it down my neck and a little on my chest for everything to match. In Urban Decay’s defense, their description does claim that it will oxidize and that you should wait for it to dry down before choosing a shade. I have noticed that fuller coverage foundations tend to oxidize the most, so this is not a deal-breaker for me. 4.0 is slightly too yellow, but it was the only shade that matched me the best. The description also claims that the foundation is comfortable enough for everyday wear. I do not really agree with this claim for two reasons: 1) I personally do not like to wear full coverage foundation, or foundation at all, everyday and 2) I find that it is slightly too heavy to feel comfortable even if I did wear it everyday. This foundation is no BB Cream, and for that reason I think it is just slightly too heavy and full coverage to be comfortable wearing just on casual days. The claim that this foundation absorbs oils is something else that I do not exactly agree with. I still do get pretty shiny in my t-zone, BUT the foundation does not break up in that area which is a huge plus for me!

Final Thoughts

So… would I repurchase??? The answer is YES! While there were a few cons, I really do like this foundation and will most likely continue to repurchase it. When I go all out with my makeup, this has been my go-to foundation since I purchased it. I love how full coverage it is while not looking like a thick layer of makeup on my skin. The undertone is slightly off, but this is something I can fix by mixing in other foundations/foundation mixers. This being said, I do think that UD should add in shades with more neutral undertones to accommodate many more skin shades.

If you have been on the hunt for a full coverage and long lasting foundation- give this one a try! AND if you have been hesitating to splurge on this foundation specifically like I was, remember you can always get a sample from Sephora or try it out in-store first!

Hot or Not?! EX1 Invisiwear Liquid Foundation

I kept hearing so many great things about this foundation so I decided to try it out for myself!

Product details:

  • I’m pretty sure this foundation can only be found online. I ordered mine from for $16 (this website also offers free shipping woohoo!).
  • Comes in 16 shades ( I have the shade F200).
  • Claims to be lightweight and give a luminous finish.
  • Oil and fragrance free formula.

  • While this foundation does come in a wide variety of shades, they are all geared towards people with olive undertones. This isn’t a problem for me, but unfortunately if you have a more fair complexion these shades might end up being too deep.
  • I expected this to be more of a medium to full coverage foundation, but on me it is a light-medium coverage. It doesn’t really do a great job of covering my acne scars.
  • This foundation claims to be a luminous finish, but I find that it is a natural matte finish on my combo-oily skin. For me this isn’t a bad thing, but if you were looking for a luminous finish foundation this one isn’t the best option in my opinion.

  • This foundation is very blenable with either a beauty sponge or a brush. I have been trying it out with both and do not see a different in coverage, finish, or wear time.
  • It makes my skin look so good! Yes, it doesn’t do a great job for covering up my blemishes, but in a way it still just makes my skin look flawless and healthy. When I am wearing this, I almost don’t mind having my acne scars peak through a little bit because it gives a naturally pretty look.
  • For me, the foundation kind of adjusts to your skin. The shade F200 is maybe a shade too dark when I first apply it, but once I start blending it out it matches me perfectly (this will only really work I think if you have the right undertones).
  • I never really wear makeup longer than 8 hours and this lasted pretty well, just always be sure to wear a primer!

Overall, I think this is a great foundation. I was disappointed by the lack of coverage, but the finish and tone of the foundation and gorgeous! If I were to run out, I would definitely repurchase it!

Product Review: Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer

I have heard nothing but good things about this foundation, so I really wanted to try it out for myself! Keep reading to see my initial first thoughts when applying the foundation, as well as my final review.

This foundation claims to…

  • $27 for 1 fluid ounce of product (standard amount).
  • Moisturizing, lightweight formula that is suited for ALL skin types.
  • Will not oxidize.
  • Will not clog pores.
  • All-day wear that lasts through sweat and humidity.
  • Very pigmented and might appear darker when first applied, but will adjust to skin tone when blended it.
  • Full/ moderate to full coverage with a natural- matte finish.
  • Comes in 20 different shades ranging from cool to neutral to warm undertones.

I have the shade Creamwhip and I dabbed the product onto my skin using my finger because I did not want to use the applicator straight on my skin for sanitary purposes. I blended it out with a Real Techniques beauty sponge (this is how I have been blending out my foundations lately) and it blended out beautifully. The first time I used the foundation, I definitely underestimated the coverage and applied a little too much, but the sponge soaked up any extra product and gave a beautiful finish. The second time I applied the foundation, I used way less and it looked even better. I 100% agree with the claim of it being full coverage and having a natural matte finish. When I read that this was a moisturizing formula, I was a little concerned because I do have oily skin. However, I did not have any issues with my skin being super greasy and having to blot/powder throughout the day. In fact, I feel like this foundation does a great job of controlling my oily skin and staying put. No, it does not keep me looking really matte, but the slight shine was nothing that bothered me. This being said, I definitely agree with the claim that this is suited for all skin types. It is matte enough for oilier skin types, yet moisturizing enough for dryer skin. It gives moderate to full coverage, but does not look cakey at all and makes your skin look really healthy.

The only thing that I do not like about this foundation is not with the formula or anything, but with the shades. I was matched at the Clinique counter and the shade Creamwhip is a PERFECT match for me and stays true to color. The only thing that confuses me is that Creamwhip is considered to be a “fair” shade in the range. I have olive toned skin and am not fair by any means, so I feel like if you have very fair skin, the lighter shades might not be light enough. This is nothing huge, it just makes it difficult to find your shade if you were to purchase this online. If I had not have gone to a counter to get color matched, I probably would have gotten a shade that was way too dark for me.

Overall, I am OBSESSED with this foundation (it might even beat my #1 Too Faced Born This Way)! It has great coverage (and I actually do not need to use extra concealer to cover up any blemishes) and feels so lightweight that I could easily wear it everyday. The fact that this is also only $27 is great because most foundations from department store/ Sephora brands are in the $40 range. Bottom line- I can see why everyone raves about this product and I definitely recommend trying it out!

Product Review: The Best Foundation EVER!

I am a big fan of drugstore foundations because I have found a few great ones that I reach for over my more high end options. However, I have found nothing that matches up to the Too Faced “Born This Way” liquid foundation ($39).

too faced

This foundation is by far the best foundation I have ever used! I even like it better than the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk liquid foundation that I raved about, and even though this Too Faced one is still a higher end foundation, it is way less expensive than the Armani one.

This foundation can work for ANY skin type- dry, combo, oily, etc. If you are a makeup artist, this is a great foundation to have because it is so universal and looks great on everyone!

Product Description (from Too Faced website):

  • Comes in 18 shades (they recently added six new shades!)
  • Oil-free formula
  • Medium to full coverage
  • Demi- matte finish
  • Infused with coconut water to give the skin a hydrated look without appearing greasy
  • Infused with Alpine Rose to give the skin a naturally brighter look and promote elasticity
  • Contains Hyaluronic Acid to give the skin a more balanced and youthful appearance

This foundation is medium to full coverage, but it does not feel heavy whatsoever (so it is still a great everyday foundation) and even when I look up close in the mirror, it does not even look like I am wearing foundation! It just looks like a better version of my own skin! When I am wearing this foundation, my skin and makeup has never looked more flawless. Even though this foundation is not specifically geared towards oily skin types, I still do not get extremely greasy or oily throughout the day. The longest I have ever worn this foundation is about 6 hours, but I think I could still get a good 8 hour wear out of this (I don’t like to wear makeup for longer than 8 hours anyway).

Hopefully this post was helpful for anyone wanting to try this foundation specifically or if anyone is on the hunt for their perfect foundation. This is the best foundation I have ever tried so far, drugstore or high end.

Makeup Products for Combo to Oily Skin

These are my favorite products that I love to use for combo to oily skin types. There are drugstore and a few higher end products listed and some products that I have not mentioned before on my blog! These are all products that I will continue to repurchase time and time again when I run out.

  • Benefit POREfessional pore minimizing face primer ($31)
  • Monistat Chafing Relief powder gel ($6- I have a post dedicated to explaining this product it is awesome!)

  • Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless liquid foundation ($8)
  • L’Oreal Infallible Pro- Matte liquid foundation ($12)
  • L’Oreal Infallible Pro- Matte powder foundation ($10)
  • Georgio Armani Luminous Silk liquid foundation ($62- this stuff is really good for people who want a luminous finish without looking too shiny or greasy).

Setting Powders:

  • Coty Airspun Loose setting powder in Translucent ($7- be careful with flash photography because this stuff can cause the dreaded flash- back!).
  • Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder in Translucent ($4)
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills pressed setting powder in Banana ($40 in whole contour kit, $14 for individual pan- this is great for setting the under eye area, not necessarily for the whole face).

Eye Primers:

  • Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoos ($5- These are great if you have oily eyelids and need a good primer or cream eyeshadow that does not crease. I like to use them as a base for my eyeshadows, especially the shade Creamy Beige from the Leathers line).

  • MAC Pro Longwear concealer ($20)
  • L.A. Girl Pro Concealer ($3)

  • Rimmel Natural Bronzers ($4)
  • Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer ($13- this has a very slight shimmer but it is almost undetectable on the skin)

  • Wet N Wild Color Icon blushes ($3- the matte and shimmer shades are all fantastic!)
  • NYX HD blushes ($7- matte and shimmer)

Setting Spray:

  • L’Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender setting spray ($15- a bit pricey for drugstore, but you get A LOT of product).

Review: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

I am sure you have all heard of this foundation before, as well as its hefty $62 price tag! I have heard so many fantastic things about this foundation, but since I have oily skin and this is a “luminous” foundation, I did not think that this would be for me. However, I tried a sample of this stuff and IT IS AMAZING!! It is full coverage, but it feels very lightweight and is natural looking, so I have been wearing it the past few days. I was afraid that this stuff would make my face look like an oily mess, but it stayed in place all night and did not make me look any oiler or shinier than I typically would (I set it with a powder and it did not look cake-y and still looked great). It blended beautifully and I did not have any issues applying my other products on top. It gives the skin a gorgeous luminosity rather than a shine. If you have drier skin, you will probably love this foundation as well, but if you are oiler and worried that this luminous foundation will not work for you, try a sample! I love it and am probably going to splurge on the full size!

My Sister’s Wedding Makeup!

The beginning stages…

The finished look…

And some last minute touch ups…

(that’s me in the purple!)

Products I used for my sister’s makeup:

  • Primed with Nivea Men aftershave balm
  • Primed with Monistat chafing relief powder gel (Yes, I know it sounds strange but I will explain this in a future post!)
  • NYX green concealer (color correcting)
  • Estee Lauder Double- Wear foundation (I highly recommend this foundation for any wedding or special occasion it is FANTASTIC)
  • NYX concealer in tan (cream contour)
  • L.A. Girl pro concealer in creamy beige (under eyes and highlight)
  • L’Oreal Matte Infallible powder foundation to set face
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills banana powder to set under eyes
  • NYC bronzer in Sunny to bronze face
  • Kat Von D Shade + Light palette to contour/ highlight face
  • Milani baked blush in Luminoso
  • Wet N Wild bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana to highlight (I applied this to the tops of her shoulders and collar bone as well for that extra glow).

  • MAC Pro Longwear concealer as eyeshadow primer
  • Mixed MAC Soft Brown and Swiss Chocolate shadows in crease as transition shade
  • Applied Maybelline Color Tattoo in beige to lid
  • Applied MAC shadow in Satin Taupe to lid
  • Applied MAC shadow in Sketch to outter V of the eye and halfway into the crease (I kept repeating this process of adding these four colors and blending until I got the desired look)
  • Applied Maybelline gel liner in blackest black and winged it out slightly
  • Applied a mixture of Sketch and Swiss Chocolate to lower lash line
  • Curled lashes and applied one coat to top and bottom lashes with Maybelline Lash Sensational waterproof mascara
  • Applied Ardell Demi Wispies lashes
  • Tightlined and lined water line with L’Oreal black eyeliner

  • Filled in brows with Anastasia Brow Wiz in dark brown
  • Set brows with Milani clear brow gel
  • Lined lips with MAC Spice lip liner
  • Applied Kat Von D liquid lipstick in shade Lovesick

Lastly, I set the face with the L’Oreal Infallible setting spray and a few sprays of MAC Fix +!

My sister has normal to dry skin and it can be a little splotchy in certain areas but this makeup lasted on her the whole night and stayed looking flawless. Makeup typically patches off of her face throughout the day, but this makeup DID NOT BUDGE! I did not even have to touch up any part of her makeup during the wedding (and the ceremony was outdoors). Every product I used is great for photography as well and there was no flashback.

The Foundation Tip That Will Save Your Makeup!

No matter what kind of skin type you may have, almost everyone can say that at some point during the wear of their makeup, the dreaded T-Zone can get a bit oily (or a lot oily). This foundation tip will make your makeup look fresher longer and even if you do need to reapply powder later on, it will keep your skin from looking cake-y.

What you do is, right after applying foundation and concealer, before you set your face with a powder, take a blotting sheet or a piece of toilet paper and blot your face. That’s it! No extra product required! It seems insignificant, but blotting before applying a powder will pick up any excess oil and foundation so that the powder won’t lock it into place. By doing just this simple step, it will keep your makeup from looking cake-y and greasy earlier on in the day and leave you looking flawless!

This same rule goes for when you want to touch up on your powder throughout the day. Most people notice they are a little shiny in their T-Zone and the first instinct is just to mask it with powder. By just putting powder on top of oil, it will give a very thick and cake-y appearance. So again, blot the area and THEN set it with a powder. You will notice a huge difference in terms of how the makeup wears and how the powder will apply.

If this tip seems familiar, I watched a Wayne Goss YouTube video where he explained this and it has definitely helped me out and made a huge difference. It works for me, so I thought I would share it with you all!

Milani Conceal + Perfect Foundation- Review

milani foundation Unless you live under a rock in the world of makeup, you have probably already heard about this Conceal + Perfect, 2- In- 1 Foundation from Milani ($9). I was hesitant to try this at first because I typically do not go for full coverage foundations due to the fact that they can become “cakey”, especially since I do have oilier skin. However, I heard so many good things about it and finally wanted to try it out for myself.

The color range is alright but a little more on the yellow- ish/ warm side. I have olive skin, so for me I do not really mind this (I bought the shade Sand Beige, not the shade in the picture) and Sand Beige matches my neck perfectly.

This foundation claims to be:

  • Medium- Full coverage
  • Lightweight, oil-free formula
  • Long-wearing
  • Water resistant and sweat-proof

I have to say, I do agree with every one of these. When I first applied the foundation (overtop of my Nivea Men Aftershave balm) I was quite surprised at the amount of coverage it gave without looking like a thick layer of makeup. It comes out very thick from the pump which scared me at first, but after it is blended into the skin (I use a makeup buffing brush), it just looks like a better, more even form of my own skin. Up close, I could not even really see the foundation on my face. After, I applied concealer and powdered my face with the Coty Air-spun lose powder like I usually do and it gave me a flawless look all day.

The first time I wore this foundation, I wore it for 12 hours straight and yes, it was a little shiny, however it was nothing I couldn’t stand. It stayed in place all day and I really enjoyed it. Even though it is full coverage, it can be worn as a daily foundation because it is so comfortable and lightweight.

Conclusion: Yes, this foundation is fantastic, especially if you have oily skin and are on the hunt for a full coverage foundation, regardless of the price.
